If you’re an entrepreneur, you most likely had a lemonade stand for at least one summer during your childhood. It may have been your very first business venture, and you probably learned a lot about marketing during that time.
Some things don’t change all that much - are you applying what you learned then to your current business? Below are snippets from a wikiHow article and some suggestions on applying that wisdom to your web site marketing efforts.
Here’s how to do your best in the sometimes highly-competitive lemonade market.

Search Marketing Standard’s series on Seven Habits of Highly Successful Search Engine Marketing gives solid and helpful advice on how to spend your online marketing budget wisely.
There are a couple of areas in Part II - Keyword Best Practices - that especially caught my interest.
Create Basic Keywords expands on the 5 types of keyword sets your campaign should encompass:
- Root terms

Several times people have asked this question in blog comments - Do blog comments pass as much link juice as other forms of link building when made on a ‘do follow’ blog posting?
After a discussion with an esteemed colleague, as well as some research on blog comments left by us, the short answer to this is yes, they do. Long answer - not only do they carry as much, but they may carry more weight.
Blog comments are typically placed on highly relevant sites. If there are relevant keywords in the comment, this will add to the value, and if a keyword within the comment is linked (not always allowed) the link is highly valued.

There is a very good article on The Art of Niche Keyword Analysis for Social Media Marketing at SMMWhiz. It’s a little advanced, but if you want to target your niche, especially for social media, it’s an excellent guide.
Steps include:
- Preparing for Analysis
- Analyzing Competition
- Buzz Tracking
- Removal
- Keyword Clustering
The author, Ashwin Ramesh, says:
Whenever you engage in Niche Determination, make sure that the niche’s you select are relevant to the product or concept you are selling.
You cannot run a site about cakes and target niches involving rocket propulsion systems just because more people are searching for the latter.

Black Hat Keyword Tool
I don’t know what would be considered black hat about this keyword tool, but it’s a very fast way to get a nice list of keywords:
Black Hat SEO Keyword Tool
Microsoft Adcenter Keyword Tool
According SEO Book Aaron Wall’s blog post of January 11:
“…this tool is bad ass. Ad Intelligence is a new keyword tool from Microsoft which is well worth using, and will probably force Google and Yahoo to make better keyword tools. All of this data is free during the beta test as long as you have a Microsoft AdCenter account (you can set one up for $5, with a $50 coupon if you search Google for AdCenter) and a copy of Microsoft Excel 2007 (the Ad Intelligence link above allows you to download a free trial of Excel).”
