Leaving comments on blogs can be a valuable part of your linkbuilding campaign.
It does not mean leaving “Great post!” comments on every blog you find. Most bloggers will delete those ASAP, as they should.
Leaving proper blog comments takes time and effort. The rules are simple enough:
- Find relevant blogs
- Read the blog posting
- Leave a comment that adds value to the discussion
- Keep your comment in line with the blog’s comment policy
- Make sure the web site you’re linking to (yours) is worthwhile

Several times people have asked this question in blog comments - Do blog comments pass as much link juice as other forms of link building when made on a ‘do follow’ blog posting?
After a discussion with an esteemed colleague, as well as some research on blog comments left by us, the short answer to this is yes, they do. Long answer - not only do they carry as much, but they may carry more weight.
Blog comments are typically placed on highly relevant sites. If there are relevant keywords in the comment, this will add to the value, and if a keyword within the comment is linked (not always allowed) the link is highly valued.

I’ve added and activated the Dofollow plugin from Semiologic to my blog, along with this graphic to let you know your comments are followed from this blog. Spam comments will be deleted; everyone else is welcome.
You can download your choice of ifollow graphics in several colors to match your blog design.
