Tips for Flakey People Like Me
Hi, my name is Kay and I am a flake.
There, I said it. My inspiration is the blog article I just read by Sonia Simone, The Complete Flake’s Guide to Getting Things Done. Yes, she wrote it last year, but I only just read it, and it spoke to me!
So I say “Thank you Sonia, for clarifying my flakiness to me and giving me direction!”
Maybe you’re a flake too. Does this describe you?
Are you smart and motivated and passionate, and have lots of cool things you’d like to get done, but somehow when it comes to doing them, you just…don’t?
Are you great at ideas but lousy at execution? Talk a good game but don’t get any results? Spend a lot of time thinking about where you want to go, but not much time actually moving your ass down the road that would take you there?
Okay, enough free stuff – now you have to click over to her site and read the rest from there. It’s worth it. There are a couple of book suggestions and a software program to help you focus your flaky tendencies.
One of her tips is to do something in the next 20 minutes. So I did. Here ya go!

Thanks for this book recommendation. Is this a self-help or self-discovery book? I’d probably say that I’m the king of procrastination. I hope this book will help me.
Judging from your post, then I guess I would consider myself a flake too! But then again, aren’t we all flakes? Just in varying degrees of flakiness
This is good for those people who are also Flakey. And it is nice to have some tips to avoid this problem. And I don’t think if some people doesn’t have a good personality because in the future you will learn it from your own experience.
thanks a lot you wrote a good article
Hehe, sounds like something I could do with. And I know I’m not the only person in SEO like this! Maybe it’s a common trend?
@Matt – yeah, maybe that’s we SEO people are so special…we’re all kinda flakey
There are way too many flakes out there. I work really hard not to become one. I think my parents set me up for it by always making me use checklists. I still use them. I choose a reward that I really want to restrict myself from that reward until I have checked off a portion of my checklist.

@Ryan – the only way I can actually get most things done is to have a list!
Boo. Looks like from that list that I’m a flake. I get things done when I want them done. I maximize my utility though aka less work Lots of play haha.
@countertop display – less work, more play sounds good to me
OK what’s the big idea peekin’ on on me like that; uncool kay.

@Dennis – you gave yourself away there…I was just talkin’ about myself!

I become crusty after making a great list and then falling asleep. When I wake up everything’s still the same. So list is not working for me. Gotta execute everything just when I ‘need’ it done. So I think I have to read this blog article.
I admit nothing but I am closing my blinds…

I think I’m a flake too. I think flakes make a great leader. Or founder, or pioneers. They oozes creativity and ideas but are lacking in execution.
Great post.
Is it just me or does that link not work?
I think everyone is a little flakey. You have to make a plan and stick with it. Set up a time line or what things you need to do everyday. I have to read the rest of the post on other site but so far it is a good one.

lol. I never thought I was a flakey.
Nice post. Love to be back for more.
I guess I’m a flaky person! It’s time I should do something!Great resources!I shall spend sometime for some self reflection.
Staying motivated and on track can be very difficult. I’ve tried lists in the past, but I would end up wasting so much time rereading my long lists. My new plan is to just avoid all distractions and keep busy as much as possible. If this doesn’t work I may have to setup some type of schedule to ensure I get everything done each week.
Staying focused in hard to do – I guess I’m a part time flake.
It seems to me it’s better to read the original author of the idea of GTD. I mean David Allen. Though some of his idea may seem arguable they really helped me to improve my productivity.
