I totally agree. Visitors to a site just want the information in places where they’re used to seeing it. Don’t bother placing menus in unfamiliar places, it just won’t work.

This is something that NEEDS to be highlighted! The best advice that I can give bloggers or article writers is the old KISS principle - Keep It Short, Simple. I can’t 100% agree with your idea. I believe that it depends.
And mostly it depends on the target audience of your site.
Of course if you’re aiming maximum traffic you should write as simple as you can. But if you’re creating a business social network you shouldn’t select the right words. You gonna speak with your colleagues that will understand you for sure.
