Site Visitors Want to Scan and Understand
Many writers think that by using complex terms and complicated language web site content will seem more knowledgeable and sophisticated.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Internet users want to quickly scan and understand what you have to say…if they have to interpret your words, they won’t bother, they’ll just move on.
Don’t Make Me Think
The book “Don’t Make Me Think” by Steve Krug is primarily written for web designers, but I use that motto a lot when writing and structuring content for the Internet.
The following practices will move your visitors through your content with a quick understanding of what you want to communicate to them.
* Headers
* Bullet Points
* Bolded Words
Did it work?

Determine the goal of your content copywriting. Is it meant to increase website traffic with search engine optimization and/or pay per click marketing, or is it primarily aimed at visitor conversion?
Online users do not want to check each words because most of them are fast readers. You should always make your post “readers friendly” so that we will keep on coming to your website. right?
I agree with the scan idea. I think everyone just skims today. thats the beauty of the web – you can just browse as you please… KISS – keep it simple stupid
KISS , really makes a lot of sense to me. I have always liked photos. In real estate people want to see homes and places.

Headers and bullet words are really helpful to catch the attention of the site visitors.
i think it should be simple always..
I agree when doing website content i try and keep it as simple as possible while still delivering information or getting a point across. I know when i am surfing i prefer to be able to easily understand the content i come across and not need a dictionary in hand. Great post !
I agree with you, but sometimes it is hard when the topics I blog about involve something technical. I guess I just have to figure out who my reader is and judge whether or not they actually want this technical content.

Keeping things simple is quite important if you want to attract a broad audience. That doesn’t mean you have to dumb things down just be very careful with the language and avoiding unnecessary jargon.
Yeah, especially in today’s world, internet users aren’t interested in long, drawn-out content. They want to get to the point and quickly.

Bolding stuff out really does help when you have to read long articles especially landing pages with tons of information. Quick bullet points & bolding to catch the attention rather then reading the whole thing is they way to go.
The popularity of Cliffs Notes proved that people don’t want to do any hard work – they, for some reason, just want to read about doing the task- not actually doing it!

I’ll not bother to visit a blog again if I’ll have to Google difficult terms further. It might be an exception from the past to use those terms or people might use them for ranking purposes. Anyways, we should be as simplistic as we can.
Really, it is obvious. We just don’t want to notice.

* Bullet Points
* Bolded Words
+ I would also add images and small pics.
article writing helps a lot in SEO. because users wants a article or content that the user read and they lean on that, most of them…
I have noticed in few other sites that they have used very difficult terminology. Instead of using easy words so that the website can solve its lone purpose, i.e. making people understand.

I can’t 100% agree with your idea. I believe that it depends.
And mostly it depends on the target audience of your site.
Of course if you’re aiming maximum traffic you should write as simple as you can. But if you’re creating a business social network you shouldn’t select the right words. You gonna speak with your colleagues that will understand you for sure.
Keeping it simple is VERY important………

“Internet users want to quickly scan and understand what you have to say…if they have to interpret your words, they won’t bother, they’ll just move on.”
This is something that NEEDS to be highlighted! The best advice that I can give bloggers or article writers is the old KISS principle – Keep It Short, Simple. Pretend that you are trying to talk to or explain something to a ten year old when you write anything and you won’t go too far wrong.
Great post!

Absolutely. Give them the information they came for in a way that’s simple to find and read. Then maybe they’ll stay or come back for more.
Yes, you got a point. That’s what I thought because while surfing the web I stop at the content with easy words and bullet points, even if I don’t really want to read it.

Good article, for those who want to read more about this topic google the “poynter institute eye-trac” study. They are up to their 7th one.
I totally agree. Visitors to a site just want the information in places where they’re used to seeing it. Don’t bother placing menus in unfamiliar places, it just won’t work.
Well.. me to…
Skimming and scanning, like what I had in collage.
I don’t want to think too much either when I read some article on a website, it will be sucks and I will get out from there when the article is too complicated.
