Marketing in 2009 – Still Good News for Internet Business
Are you ready to increase your sales conversions by 119% this year?
You can achieve this in a year when the country is in a recession and offline advertising spending (newspapers, radio, TV) will be cut back 5-16%. Conversely, Internet advertising will increase by at least 9%, which is less than previous years but still on the plus side of the equation.
Back to that great great sales conversion increase…the new formula is:
Display Ads + Search = Increased Sales Conversions
Display ads, whether on- or offline, will increase brand awareness and foster more engagement – such as visiting your web site. Options include graphic ads on relevant sites, postcard mailings, email advertising, and of course newspaper, radio, and TV if they are in your budget.
Top organic results coupled with pay-per-click (PPC) ads have proven to be a winning combination for online businesses.
Coupons = Motivation to Buy
Good business practices in 2009 include offering low prices, great deals, and coupons.
“Free Shipping” was the mantra of the holidays. Since the average amount a consumer spends is predicted to decrease quite a bit this year, to entice purchases the trend for 2009 will be digital coupons.

87% of money-conscious consumers now prefer to shop at retailers that offer coupons. With the advent of the iPhone, Google Android and other touchscreen smartphones (see Is Your Web Site Mobile Phone-Friendly?), consumers can use their cell phone to look for deals and coupons right at the point of purchase.
The coupon site RetailMeNot has become huge, with reports of over 5 million unique visitors per month. They offer a Firefox extension, gadgets, widgets and more; as consumers search the web they can instantly be notified of an available coupon for the site they’re visiting. If you have an online coupon to offer, it’s free to add it to the site.
Are you ready for 2009? Your marketing plan needs to include meticulous site SEO, inbound links, good deals to attract buyers, digital coupons, display ads, and PPC. It sounds expensive, and it can be, but with hard work and lots of research you can do it for less money than you may think.

Firemen are always popular during a fire. SEO is somewhat recession proof because businesses that are hurting have to cut areas that do not earn money and they have to increase advertising to get more business. I know a SEO firm that did 12 times as much business in 2008 as they predicted they would.

Internet advertising is more and more required now. A company that want to find a good client not only in it’s own city and NOT USE internet marketing – it’s a failure company.
So, I fully agree that better spend time, imagination and money on making online work, then to spend big money only on local city/country promotions.
I have been thinking that I should start doing more PPC and combine it with my already good SEO results to make even more money. I used to do a lot of PPC, but haven’t done it much over the last few years.
Nice post. I also like the coupon information. I think we will see a lot of coupons and sales in 2009.

A well-known and prestigious newspaper is now offering their front page for ads. The Internet is buzzing now with more people and more activity; so what are we waiting for? Let’s be more active in our websites on the year 2009. I feel it in my bones that 2009 will be fruitful.

2009 hopefully will be a better year for the economy then 2008….time will tell!!!!!!
@NJ Diner Fan – I think SEO will be big this year. With the online competition for companies getting hotter, they have to get more aggressive with their marketing.
@China Trader – I agree, it’s a global economy these days and although some companies will stay local, many need to get out into the big wide world!
@George – If you increase your PPC, let us know how it works in conjunction with your good SEO results – I’d like to know. Yes, lots of sales this year!
@Trade Show Guru – I know a lot of people are starting to look online for the good deals. And I don’t buy anything online until I check for a coupon code.
@Rosyln – That is interesting…front page! You’re right – time to get going with our websites.
@gogi juice – People are looking online for the good deals…they don’t have to get dressed and leave their homes, use gas to drive around, and the Internet ecommerce arena has gotten more and more conpetitive.
@Work at Home – I think it will start turning around by the middle of the year. I’m always an optimist!
Nice round-up. 2009 is shaping up to be the year of the coupon codes. Adding a code to your PPC ads is a great way of increasing click-throughs and conversions.

Not only in 2009 coupons can play important role in marketing. The posting is good and I could understand many things about the internet business
This year is very good for internet ads, because most companies reduce the expences for all kinds of advertisement. And internet is the most suitable thing for this reason

You’re right its a lot of hard work and takes a lot of time…… but it’s worth it.
yah! internet advertising is really good. Most people today preffered to shop online to save time and effort….^_^
I think your post is a little miss leading. Internet marketing is increasing due to a shift in focus in marketing strategies. In addition its easier to test and analysis marketing results online. Thanks for the link to retailmenot its a great website.
Online marketing is definitely going to grow at rapid pace. For a company who wants to be successful in the world of internet, there should be a definite online marketing plan, and a company should spend money according to its plan. And, yeah, it is becoming more expensive, because everybody wants to spend money on online marketing.
There is not an SEO tool that will boost your rankings by itself. SEO technology is very important and with proper use, you can rocket your online business success.

Right now is the best time to grab market share from your competition. There are more reasons now than ever for consumers to turn to the web for great deals. When it comes down to finding the best products at the lowest cost, nothing beats the web. Comparison shopping engines, alternative payment methods and coupon codes will continue to help drive conversions even in a down economy. Consumers still need goods for work, school, sports, etc. I think consumers are just getting smarter about how they spend and doing more research before making a purchase. Since research is a big part of the buying process, sites that offer the most quality content will attract the most sales.
Nice round-up. 2009 is shaping up to be the year of the coupon codes. Adding a code to your PPC ads is a great way of increasing click-throughs and conversions.
GOOD LUCK to all Marketing in 2009 – Still Good News for Internet Business
Observing a current situation in the country I see that crisis already has affected advertising in an offline. The big advertising platforms on a city are empty. I hope advertisers will turn the sight aside the Internet as effective and cheaper market of advertising.
Some good tips. Internet marketing still has some great advantages over any othe form of business.

Since coupons work so well offline (look at your Sunday Newspapers) I think businesses using them online will gain a competitive advantage over others. A coupon that has an expiration date can motivate someone to buy now for a discount, instead of waiting and maybe never buying at all.
