Freshen Up Your Web Site SEO
Now that the holidays are over, it’s time to take a fresh look at your web site and make sure your onsite SEO is in order.
Sometimes the basics get overlooked when a new design is launched; frequent changes to a site can result in lost titles/meta tags; content changes can mean good keywords accidentally go by the wayside.
Review these basic but necessary SEO requirements:
Keywords:
Unique titles / meta tags on every page
Desired keywords in titles and content
Properly named graphics with alt tags
Linking:
Contextual keyword linking to interior pages
Absolute (not relative) linking on all site links
Footer links to main site pages
HTML sitemap that links to all web site pages
"No follow" on links to other sites
No dead links
Search Aids:
Address / phone number in footer
Privacy policy that is linked to in the footer
.XML sitemap and Webmaster tools code
Refresh:
Google analytics code prior to </body> tag (not header)
Review Webmaster tools for stray and 404 pages
A little squirt of site freshener (new images, new banners, etc)
Making sure you’ve dotted your i’s and crossed your t’s in your site SEO will make a difference in your rankings. I have sites that have done well without one inbound link but that have meticulous optimization.

Thank you for reminding us about this. Sometimes when new design is installed, a webmaster can easily forget to check certain things to ensure their blog runs smoothly due to the new interesting look of their blog.
interesting post. great for boosting website potential.
nice for newbies, thx a lot.
Nice tips… especially the refresh tips, I am surprised by how many business owners create a website and leave it the same for years. Style and tastes change and customers get bored with the same old content and graphic design. Keep up the good work… Thanks!
@Nashville Web Design – I can almost tell what year a site was designed just by looking at it. If nothing else, site owners should freshen up their sites with new graphics.
I think that it is a right thing to do for site owners to change their graphics from time to time in order for their sites to be a bit new and that visitors and regular members will expect that the site that they were in to is very active and functioning well.
