I just signed up for a BOTW affiliate account this morning. Do these work anymore? Seems like they might be going to way of Adsense, where they just become a part of the fabric and are duly ignored. Then again, I don’t get a whole lotta traffic. Just stay positive and plug away, I say.

@Wordsmith – I think they still work as a link building tool, but not for traffic.
I meant more do the affiliate links work for making money. So many people are putting them up that I imagine the majority are getting ignored and nobody’s clicking/signing up/paying money.

@Wordsmith – I haven’t had great luck with affiliate links…I think it’s a numbers game. Your site needs to be pulling in a lot of traffic to start making much money.
I stopped using BOTW after the latest increase in their prices, as you said it is a link building tool like other directories even the big one (Yahoo and DMOZ) comes with 0 traffic guaranteed with the value going less I can not see a reason to hike up the price.

While there may still be some link popularity benefit to these kinds of links, I think they are becoming more and more devalued by the engines. I think it’s only a matter of time before they are worthless.

Great coupon code indeed! I’ve been contemplating this or DMOZ or other paid inclusion sites. My question though is why doesn’t Google consider paid directories as paid link farms? I sometimes wonder what is the difference really.

I was looking at BOTW but I have seen varied responses on it’s worth. The amount of traffic generated. If you have the cash maybe for brand management. But I don’t know.

Thanks for the discount code, it takes away some of the pain. I too am a little wary of paying for inclusion (especially as they keep your money even if you don’t get included!) as search engines alter their algorithms and make these services less valuable.

Does anyone have any evidence that BOTW still has value? At $50 for a listing fee, I would like to know that it’s worth it before spending the money. There are hundreds of these directories now charging a small fees, but the fees all add up, and the ROI has been dwindling.
