Top 10 Checklist for PPC

23 October 2008 6 Comments

PPC report Running a Pay-per-Click (PPC) campaign can become quite expensive, and it’s very important that you monitor the results carefully to make sure you’re maximizing  your ROI (return on investment).

I don’t pretend to know enough about PPC to give much (if any) advice, but Amy Konefal has written a terrific article on how to improve your PPC campaign: SEM for ROI – Top 10 SEM Checklist.

There’s quite a lot of valuable advice in her article, with screenshots that make each item on the checklist easier to understand.

#1

Download a Search Query Performance Report from Google AdWords (note that such a report is not available in Yahoo or MSN – only Google). Mine this for more keywords to add, as well as more negative keywords to add.

I have to admit it – I didn’t even realize that report existed! I copied and pasted the entire article, with screenshots, into a Word document so I would have it on hand as I venture into PPC marketing for my niche web sites.

If you’re currently running a PPC campaign, or are seriously considering it, you’ll want to read this article.

That’s a really good checklist. Perhaps the most important thing to do is to make sure that you have a comprehensive negative keyword list – that way you’ll receive fewer non-converting clicks and potentially a higher quality score (as the click through rate will be higher).

That’s a really great article. PPC is a fast way to lose your shirt if you are not monitoring the results. Traffic is meaningless – only conversion count. Thanks for posting.
