Google PR Update

It’s getting harder to get higher page ranks anymore - back in the day, a fairly new blog could hit a PR6 within a few months. Not anymore! It takes some effort these days - regular posts, back links, comments, etc., which is really the way it should be.

I found a nice article by SEO Gurl about the Google PR Update last week. She has some good reminders about the importance vs. non-importance of Google page rank and how it all works. I especially appreciate this point she made…it’s something we need to keep in mind:

Trust rank is far more important than page rank. Who links to you, who you link to…

The Diva didn’t make any gains this go-around, which was disappointing, since even though I know PR isn’t all that important, it’s still gratifying to get that pat on the back from the ‘Google gods.’ Oh well, next time, maybe…besides, I have great readers, like you, who I really appreciate, and who write interesting comments I love to read. You’re the ones who keep me writing new articles and enjoying it all the while!

So if your site or blog didn’t increase in PR, don’t fret - just keep plugging away, making it better all the time, gaining links from relevant sites, making valuable comments on forums and blogs. The rewards will come, and they may not appear as Google page rank!

@SeoDiva ~ PageRank is moving in the same direction as the banking industry. The strong get stronger while the weak are beaten down.

One thing that I noticed was that a lot of the bigger social media sites have been implementing more “no follows” and reducing the PR of the members while increasing the overall PR of the main domain.

@Ryan - I agree. I’m actually so tired of the whole PR thing - I wish it wasn’t such game. It would be nice if Google would implement an honest, straight across the board “trust rank” that we didn’t have to scurry around behind the scenes trying to gain.

@SeoDiva ~ I frankly don’t spend too much time worrying about PR. Maybe if I had a website drop from a 3 or 4 to a 0, I would have some concern. Like most webmasters I monitor my traffic, bounce rate and lead conversion more than anything else. I put these factors above ranking because they are the factors that actually produce revenue.

Link Dennis, I quit caring long ago about PR. I was disappointed to us drop one point in the recent shuffle, but to be honest, we had the best sales week since the drop that we’ve seen in the last 3 weeks.

Now, I could care even less about PR! At the end of the day, none of us are online to get PR - we normally have some other metric.

So I guess we did something really good, to have a PR increase from 0 to 4? However, nothing special was carried out - just original content, and being active in Internet, socializing and communicating. That’s the most important thing, and not some number, who shows your some-how-counted importance…

Yeah, PR importance seems to be fading unless you wish to sell your site, then you can feel proud to have a high PR–more money…

    first off….i love your site design..its awesome….

i have noticed some of 0 pr sites doing well on google serps..for some reason two of my clients site never got google pr, but yes rankings are quite good…i cannot list them here though ;)

First off I want to say that PR as in PR toolbar is not important to a sites success. Anchored links are. As a matter of fact my site ranks for make money blogging, and is the lowest PR of all the sites on the first page of Google for that term. Its just funny how people are still so concerned with that little number.

I am waiting for my google page rank update

do they take time or do all at same time

Page rank is pretty useless when it comes to SEO. Page rank only affects the crawl rate of your site. The higher the page rank is, the more your page will be crawled. If your site is PR0 you can expect your page to be crawled once every six weeks however if your site is PR6 like my own then it will get crawled every day :-)

Yeah I agree, page rank does not important as what usually we tend to think always that our website is behind if the Google given us a low significance.. the important thing there is you’ve had a loyal viewers and readers that always been happy about the useful information we blog and shared to everyone…

Does no follow links passes Pagerank ??? I am bit confused about this

  18. Posted October 15, 2008 at 2:26 pm | Permalink

I’ll leave the techie stuff to the Diva lol, but the short answer is NO.

They still get “indexed” but they do not pass PR….this is the reason why any text links you may or may not sell better have the no follow attribute in them ;)
