When I first started the Diva, it was because it was a requirement of my new job at Terralever in July ‘07. I had never blogged before, and was terrified of sounding like an idiot in front of a global audience (yeah, like everyone was just waiting to read my blog).
My first posts are pretty dry and stuffy, fact-filled but no personality to them. No one was reading them, either. The turning point for me was joining the Active Rain real estate forum in October ‘07 and setting up a secondary blog there. People on AR are really friendly, not afraid to comment, and not only made me feel welcome but ate up the SEO advice I dished out.
After awhile I was spending hours every day on AR. I found my blogging “voice,” my confidence soared, I had 140 subscribers, and the blog was named one of the top 50 real estate blogs. However, the Diva languished, only getting a token post here and there.
There’s only so much time in a day, the SEO Diva was dying on the vine, and I had to make a decision. So I made her prettier and started placing my original posts on SEO Diva and syndicating them to Active Rain, which backfired since by that time Google was actively indexing my AR blog (giving it all the credit) and ignoring SEO Diva.
Time to reconsider - this time I sadly pulled out of Active Rain and focused on SEO Diva, with an occasional “touching base” post to my friends in Active Rain. The Diva started gaining readers, getting comments, and reaping subscribers. Some AR people started coming over to read the Diva, which I appreciated.
My subscriber base had been fluctuating for quite some time, mostly hovering at around 45…so I set a goal for 100 subscribers. I’ve learned that most people on the Internet are pulling for each other and like to help out, so I posted my goal above my RSS feed button, and I’ve seen the number slowly but surely head toward 100 subscribers!
To do my part I’ve tried to post on a more regular and frequent basis. Sometimes the posts are short, but the intent is to always help my readers in their SEO efforts. I value every one of you and hope you continue to read SEO Diva, leave your comments, ask questions, and implement what advice you can to help your site achieve better search engine rankings.

Small goals are the way to go. I stop in every several of days to read and consume. I get about 50-60 people to visit my blog per day as the ranking has increased. I will begin the subcriber list soon as I have enough content now. Eric
My story is a little different. I started out with a online games website and then a technology blog. Then I joined a forum to make some revenue out of it. Then I started a blog on managing websites and now a new blog on hacking Windows XP. My goal is not to stick to one topic.
@Eric - Thanks for stopping by regularly. 50-60 per day is a respectable number of readers.
@Hack - Everybody’s different and you have to go with what suits you. I actually have other blogs too, but share those so it’s easier to keep up.
I haven’t been here all that long, but from what I’ve gotten from you so far, leads me to say i won’t be leaving anytime soon
I bounced around for a bit as well until I found my niche (a niche within a niche as the case may be). It takes time, but you will find what you know and continue to build it!
Great story. Its interesting to hear about how people started and morphed into their place on the web.
Were you a real estate agent…just wondering how Active Rain came about.
Anyway, chalk me up as number 77 on your rss subscriber list
