SEO Diva - Do you think it is still a good idea for real estate webmasters to buy links from directories (other than maybe Yahoo.com)? It seems that Google has recently been punishing those websites.

    What is your opinion?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting this in your blog. I just need to point out a small clarification. The discount is for the new US Business Profiles directory which can be found here: http://business.massivelinks.com/

There is no promotion for the general directory.

Ryan, I do think so…some directories were punished, but they have since cleaned up their acts.

Fabio - thanks for the correction; I have updated the blog post to reflect this.

I don’t normally use web directories for inbound links but the Aviva service might be worth using. I prefer to get free one way links from article directories.

I was under the impression that paid links were now a no no, especially in directories. What’s the difference between these directories and the thousands of “link farm” directories?

But, do you think there is such thing as “very good paid link directories”? I mean, I’ve never really received any benefit from link directories as they are never links from related sites. Google seems to just skip them over.

Dave - I try to get as many free links as possible, but directories are useful too.

Satellite - Directories are not considered paid links nor are they link farms. Payment is to have your site reviewed for quality and relevancy. Link farms are interlinked, usually not in relevant categories, and are considered blackhat.

James - When you submit your site to a directory, make sure you submit it to a relevant category. If you look at your backlinks in Yahoo (Google will not give you an accurate count) you’ll see your directory links.

i have read on many webmaster forums too that submitting to such dirs result in getting punished by G.

and many seo ppl have mentioned some paid dirs which include aviva too that not to submit in such dirs …

i had submitted few of my sites last year wen G was OK with such dirs and got a benefit too but i am confused for this stage.

Thank you Kathy for submitting to the Massive Links Business Profiles.

Massive Links is much more than just a web directory, it’s a site that offers different avenues for people to promote their businesses and websites. The site has an active member forum, an article directory and each member has their own blog area. The new Business Profile directory allows you to add products, images, video, documents and it also allows people to communicate directly via the contact form on your listing. Even though people may sign up and use the site for SEO purposes the site is geared toward being a site where businesses and consumers can come together. Think of it as a market place where business owners sell information and people come to consume it.

Puneet - Yes, Aviva was one that got hit, but it has since cleaned things up and I recommend it now. Take a look at the few directories I recommend - they are carefully chosen.

Kathy - Real estate is highly competitive, so it’s important to take advantage of everything you can - especially if it’s something most aren’t aware of!

Fabio - Thanks for explaining Massive Links to my readers. I appreciate the directories like yours that allow additional promotion. It’s a great idea and gives a lot of added value. I neglected to add your directory to my list of recommended directories, but it’s there as of today.
