The Power of Blogs

During some of my research, I came across some eye-opening statistics!

Blog Facts

1. 50 Million US Internet users visited blog sites in Q1 2005. That’s 30% of all US Internet Users and 1 in 6 of total US population. Source: ComScore

By extrapolating the date in #5 below, that number would now be (at a minimum) over 71 million Internet users visiting blogs.

2. 1 out of 20 US adults have created a blog and 11% of Internet users are regular blog readers. Source: Pew Internet & American Life Project Report

Using current data, that means over 12 million people have created blogs and over 26 million read them.

3. In a survey of the attitudes toward blogs, 77% of the respondents thought the regularly updated journals were a useful way to get insights into the products and services they should buy. Source: BBC Report

Think of the power testimonials and recommendations have.

4. According to Technorati, currently there are 51.8 Million weblogs and the blogosphere continues to double about every 6 months.

5. World Internet Users: Percentage of the Population
Internet usage information – data published by Nielsen/NetRatings, by the International Telecommunications Union, by local NIC, and other reliable sources. November 30, 2007.

  • North America 70.9% (number of people: 237,168,545)
  • Oceania/Australia 57.3%
  • Europe 42.9%
  • Latin America/Caribbean 21.5%
  • Middle East 17.4%
  • Asia 12.4%
  • Africa 4.7%
  • World Total 19.1%

6. Total number of people in the world using the Internet: 1,262,032,697

Almost 20% of the entire world uses the Internet! And by knowing how to harness that power, you – as an individual – can reach the world.

Kay, this is a nice write up, well-researched and very correct. I started blogging two years ago and I can confess that I continue to get connected to many people online. Many people now know my country because of my efforts online. But I must admit that to get noticed in the blogosphere is not that easy.
