Naming Images
Your images can help your SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages*) if you name them correctly. By using a descriptive name you give the spiders another keyword to latch onto. In addition, your images are more likely to show up in an images search. Since image searches are currently reported to be 20% of the total, this is a distinct advantage.
Be sure to name them properly, and don’t spam. Don’t name your spacer gifs. For best results use hyphens between words. For example, yellow-polkadot-bikini.jpg. If you have several on one page, to avoid spamming, interchange the keywords, i.e. bikini, bathing suit, swimsuit, etc.

I must admit after years of being in this business how many people aren’t aware of these simple SEO techniques.
In relation to spamming the search engines, the one thing I have found is if you have to ask yourself the question – Does this look spammy? then more than likely it is.
I must agree with your comment there. Not many people has explored the secrets of Google images. This can help my pagerank ranking too
Most people never name the image or bother finding terms to name it. I think it is one of the more overlooked seo tips more people should use.
And don’t forget about the attribute ALT. It is good for accessibility and for robots too. =)
Yeah seems true… but I get mostly traffic from Google Image Search.
