Meta tags are located in your source code.
The head portion of your source code should contain 3 meta tags:
- title
- description
- keywords
For best results list them in the order shown below:
<title>SEO – Learn Search Engine Optimization</title>
<meta name=“description” content=“Learn search engine optimization to obtain the highest Google and other search engine rankings possible!”>
<meta name=“keywords” content=“seo, search engine optimization, search engine rankings, google rankings”>
</head>
Your description should be an interesting description of your product or service, using your most important keywords. It should only be a couple of sentences long – take a look at how much of the description shows up for sites when you do a Google search.
If you don’t include a meta description of your site, the search engine will pull content off your site, which may end up being something you don’t want, such as “For more SEO information click here.”
If your site is listed in the Open Directory (DMOZ), search engines may use the description listed there instead of your source code description. To prevent this, use the following meta tag in the <head> portion of your page:
<meta name=”robots” content=”noindex,nofollow”>
