The Right Keywords

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Having difficulty determining what keywords are important to your site? Ask yourself these questions:

1. What products/services do I offer?

2. How are my products/services different from my competitors?

3. What industries/areas am I involved in?

4. How do customers usually find out about my business?

5. What phrases do people actually use when they search for my products/services?

These questions should jump-start your thinking. Write down every relevant word/phrase that comes to mind – you can refine your list later.

Then go to Google’s Adwords: Keyword Tool and enter your phrases. This tool will give you a good indication of search volume and importance.

Keep in mind that broad terms will be too competitive and won’t bring you the conversions you’re looking for. Take a close look at more specific descriptive phrases that include brand, color, style, size, etc. You will have a better chance of ranking highly for these keywords, and your visitors will be much more likely to click on your link since you are offering exactly what they are looking for.
