Content refers to the visible text on your page. I’m sure you’ve heard the adage “Content is King” and in my experience it’s true. Good content sprinkled with your top keywords will be instrumental in helping your web site rank well in Google.

Currently the <H1> tag seems to be ignored by Google, so make your first header <H2>. Your first header should not mirror your title tag. If your title is “
Body Text
Generally, web pages should have 200 - 300 words of text. Choose 3 - 5 keywords for each page, and place them carefully in your content. Rather than worry about density, use them naturally, the way you would speak, and your density should take care of itself.
That said, if your top tier keyword is “promotional widgets” don’t make a list like this and expect the search engines to see it as anything other than spam:
- Green and Blue Promotional Widgets
- Yellow and Red Promotional Widgets
- Purple Promotional Widgets
- Polka Dot Promotional Widgets
- Black Striped Promotional Widgets
Place Content High on the Page
It’s very important to place some of your best keyword-rich text as high up on the web page as possible. Search engines index pages from the top down, and give priority to keywords found close to the top of the page.
Limit JavaScript and HTML code that precedes your text whenever you can.
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
Cascading style sheets can be used for absolute positioning so that your keyword rich content will appear at the beginning of the HTML source code regardless of where it actually appears on the web page itself.
Don’t Use All Your Keywords on One Page
If you optimize a page with too many keywords, you dilute the focus of the page. Since pages should be tightly focused, choose only 3 – 5 keyword phrases for each. If you have a lot of keywords you want to use, add more pages to your site.
